SPORTSKLUBBEN FRAM

Sportsklubben Fram was founded on June 6, 1964.  Members of Sporsklubben Fram have been a group of dedicated and loyal supports of Nansen Field by generating funds to support this wonderful place as well as donating thousands of hours by way or work parties (dugnad) to build, paint, fix or replace roofs, wash and clean, plant trees and flowers, etc.  Great camaraderie is shared by all attending these dugnads.  Participants who so generously give of themselves to such a worthy cause enjoy good food and drinks.

Sportsklubben Fram is a sportsclub with membership in Norges Idrettsforbund (Norwegian Athletic Association).  Several times during the year, members come together at Nansen Field to run the 60-meter dash, shot put and broad-jump (long-jump) and perform a 10K walk.

Participants do not compete against each other.  In order to earth athletic pins and awards, a person must compete the event within a certain time or distance.  This standard is set by Norges Idrettsforbund and is in accordance to the age of the participator.  Everyone who is in relatively average physical condition can successfully compete and earn awards.  It is a good idea, however, to start a regular fitness program before competing.

Sportsklbben Fram has 3 to 4 social events during the year.  Our shrimp feast in the spring offers shrimp the traditional way, by peeling them ourselves and eating them with fresh French Bread and marinated cucumber salad with dill.  In recent years we have adapted an Oktoberfest theme for our autumn gathering.  We serve sausages with all the trimmings.

Fram's Julefest (Christmas Party) is an event enjoyed by all with traditional Norwegian foods that are found at a Julebord.  We join hands and form circles around the Christmas tree singing Christmas carols in English and Norwegian and other traditional songs that are such an important part of the holiday season in Norway.  Then comes music and dancing.  The evening continues with coffee and delectable desserts.  We encourage members and guests to attend this traditional feast.

From Soccer, the "football" part of Sporsklubben Fram, has games at Nansen Field on Saturdays and Sundays.  Come and slapp av (relax) at Nansen Field, a great place to spend a sunny day.  Cheer our Fram teams on to victory and enjoy the wholesome sporty youths, while they are giving everything it takes to play a good game.

Fram has a large role in he preparation of the 17 Mai Celebration at Nansen Field.  Many people are required to make this a great event.  We welcome your help with enthusiasm.

The word "Fram" means onward or forward. Our sports club is named after the vessel used by Fridtjof Nanse, the great humanitarian, diplomat, scientist, and explorer, who sailed his vessel into the frozen Arctic.  From is on display at the Bygdoy Museum in Oslo, Norway.

We invite you to become a Sportsklubben Fram member.  The income from members' dues and our annual social events help with the maintenance and improvements at Nansen Field.  Please support Nansen Field and become a member of a great club, located in a beautiful setting.
